GEcho Conversion Utilities is a set of different utilities for FrontDoor
or InterMail and using GEcho as echomail tosser. The general reason for
writing these utilities was that i needed them. There are already a lot
of conversion utilities available but the latest releases are/were not
really very uptodate at this moment.
In GCU you now find the following utilities:
■ GE2IM, convert GEcho to InterMail v2.27 - v2.30
■ GE2FD, convert GEcho to FrontDoor v2.02NC - v2.20
■ GE2RA, convert GEcho to Remote Access v1.11 - 2.0x
■ GE-NOT, Write notify messages to 1 node.
I'll try to extend GCU with some other Mailers in some future versions
I also would like to put some things in GCU which aren't covered yet by
GEcho, though they are on Gerard his wishlist, if some functionality in
GCU is obsoluted by GEcho i will stop developing that part for those
versions.
Why i don't put them in one package?, because i want to make a set off
utilities that you can put together for your own needs, most programmers
do not consider older versions of some software this way you can put them
together for YOUR system configuration, maybe i might consider to put all
versions for InterMail in one package and the program itself will try to
find which version it should use.
I will try to release as soon as possible a new release off the GCU
package when there is a new version for some off the programs ( at least
if their structures change ), if you think it takes to long you can
inform me about it since i can't keep track of all new programs/versions.

│ ▒▒▒ The Utils, Small doc's: GE2IM ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Below you will find a very small description on how to use the programs.
■ GE2IM convert GEcho to InterMail
GE2IM doesn't need any configuration, it will look for both GEcho and
the InterMail environment for the nessesary configuration files.
When GE2IM is executed it will read SETUP.GE from GEcho and FD.SYS
from InterMail. After converting AREAFILE.GE to IMFOLDER.CFG it will
update FD.SYS with the origin lines and missing AKA's.
Also JAM areas will be added to IMFOLDER.CFG, though they can not yet
be read with the InterEditor.
Switches :
- Description: GE2IM will use the descriptions instead of the
areatag name, when no description is entered in the
areamanager the areatag will be used. Instead of
entering 'Description' you can use 'D'.
- External : Like description but now you can use an external
desciption file. GE2RA.DES for example. GE2IM will
first try to find GE2IM.DES, otherwise GE2IM will try
to find GE2RA.DES.
- GroupSort : Sort areas by group and name instead on areatag.
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ ▒▒▒ The Utils, Small doc's: GE2FD ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
■ GE2FD convert GEcho to FrontDoor
GE2FD doesn't need any configuration, it will look for both GEcho and
the FrontDoor environment for the nessesary configuration files.
When GE2FD is executed it will read SETUP.GE from GEcho and SETUP.FD
from FrontDoor. After converting AREAFILE.GE to FOLDER.FD it will
update SETUP.FD with the origin lines and missing AKA's. The AKA's will
only be added if there are empty places.
JAM areas will not yet be converted to FOLDER.FD, I don't now if Frontdoor
already supports JAM.
Switches :
- Description: GE2IM will use the descriptions instead of the
areatag name, when no description is entered in the
areamanager the areatag will be used. Instead of
entering 'Description' you can use 'D'.
- External : Like description but now you can use an external
desciption file. GE2RA.DES for example. GE2IM will
first try to find GE2FD.DES, otherwise GE2FD will try
to find GE2RA.DES.
- GroupSort : Sort areas by group and name instead on areatag.

│ ▒▒▒ The Utils, Small doc's: GE-NOT ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
■ GE-NOT, GEcho node notify.
GE-NOT can be used if you want to write a notify message to just one
node regardles the notify settings in the node manager.
Switches:
- Address, address to whom a notify should be written.
If GE-NOT can not find the address in the nodemanager then
no notify will be written.
- UNLINKED, send also a list with areas that still can be
connected.
- LIST, send only notify messages to nodes whom have the notify
option set in GSetup nodemanager.
GE-NOT can also be user with wildcard options, e.g. GE-NOT * will
write a notify to al your down/uplinks, and GE-NOT 111 will write a
notify to all nodes of zone 111.
The Notify will have the same message status as configured in GEcho
nodemanager, for GEcho v1.00 the mail archive status will be used.

■ GE2RA convert GEcho to Remote Access
GEcho2RA needs some configuration, look into the Control file GE2RA.CTL
for an example configuration. Just like al the other programs you can
also use the following commandline switches:
During the update GE2RA will also update the HMB netmail boards which
can be used for netmail reply's, these areas numbers have to be entered in
both Gsetup.System Data.network addresses and the Area manager (don't
forget to set area type to netmail).
One small remark, Remote Access 1.11 users need also to set the RA 2.0x
options, otherwise GE2RA will exit with a error message.
Switches :
- Description: GE2IM will use the descriptions instead of the
areatag name, when no description is entered in the
areamanager the areatag will be used. Instead of
entering 'Description' you can use 'D'.
- External : Like description but now you can use an external
desciption file called GE2RA.DES.
GE2RA control file:
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Group {GEcho group} {Sysop Security} {User read security} {User Write
Security} {Ra message group} {Alt1 group} {Alt2 group} {Alt3 group}

all groups read from GEcho.
Always set Group '-', this is the default group when no GEcho group
is specified in the control file.
- GEcho group : GEcho's group letter (A..Z)
- Sysop security : Sysop security for this group. (0 .. 65535)

GCU is at this moment freeware, but it will become shareware in the future,
i'm not quiet sure when i make it shareware, it just depends on the time i
spend programming with it, until now it's mostly programmed for my own
needs and some good friends.
If you like the GCU utilities then send me a (net)mail saying you do use
it or either hate it. This way i can see if it's usefull for me to continue
developping GCU. You also should write me if you think i should extend
the GCU package with some new options or programs.
